It looks to me as if the trolleybus has just turned left out of East India Dock Road and is
travelling north in the re-aligned and widened St. Leonard's Road. Follett Street has just been passed on the
right. The vehicle is preparing to turn right into the road which replaced Hillditch Street before crossing the
tunnel approach road [under construction] and an unnamed temporary road to gain Drew Street, all of which were
wired-up specially for the diversion. The sketch shows the relationship of the old and new road patterns.
Much of the old wiring was kept in-situ. This was primarily for feeding purposes, since parts of Drew Street,
Blair Street, Abbott Road and Aberfeldy Street were fed via the otherwise disused eastbound wires in East India
Dock Road back at pole 350 [the feeding diagram KF1 shows the situation]. It may be, of course, that LT
expected to bring the old wires back into use after completion of the tunnel approach roadworks but if so the
matter was overtaken by events and the routes converted to diesel operation before completion of the works.
